Meghan Markle Wore a Wedding-Worthy White Gown to an Awards Ceremony

Updated: Feb 28, 2023

alling all brides-to-be! Meghan Markle just walked the red carpet and delivered major bridal fashion inspiration. On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, the Duchess of Sussex attended the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Awards in New York City with Prince Harry, and she wore a white off-the-shoulder Louis Vuitton midi dress, Harper’s Bazaar reports. Complete with a structured tulip skirt, the flattering, eye-catching dress would be perfect for a casual wedding reception, after-party, or even a pre-wedding event like a rehearsal dinner or welcome party.

Along with diamond drop earrings, black pumps, and a black clutch, Meghan also paired her look with a sentimental item that serves as a reminder of her own wedding day. The duchess donned an emerald-cut aquamarine set between solitaire diamonds on a 24-carat yellow gold band, according to Hello. The sparkler, which British luxury brand Asprey estimates is worth around $90,000 once belonged to Princess Diana and made an appearance at Meghan’s wedding reception. After Megan and Prince Harry exchanged vows at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor, England on May 19, 2018, the bride changed into a Stella McCartney sheath gown with a halter neckline and slipped the sparkler on her finger for the party at Frogmore House. Harry gave Meghan the rock on her wedding day as a gift, according to Hello.

Meghan wasn’t the only one who hit the red carpet in style on Tuesday. Harry was also dressed to the nines in a classic navy blue suit with a matching tie and a white button-up shirt.

Tuesday’s event marks the first time Harry and Meghan have made a red carpet appearance since November of 2021. The royal pair were all smiles as they walked together, hand in hand. Harry was photographed holding an umbrella for Meghan as she stepped out of the car. Then, they snapped more photos with Kerry Kennedy, Frank Baker, and Michael Polsky. At the event, the duo received the Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award for their work with racial justice, mental health, and other social endeavors with the Archewell Foundation, according to Today.

Kennedy told El Confidencial's Vanitatis magazine on November 16, 2022, that Harry and Meghan have the same “moral courage” against injustice that her father called for in his Ripple of Hope speech at the University of Cape Town in South Africa over 50 years ago when apartheid reigned. “They went to the oldest institution in U.K. history and told them what they were doing wrong, that they couldn't have structural racism within the institution, that they could not maintain a misunderstanding about mental health,” she said. "They knew that if they did this there would be consequences, that they would be ostracized. They would lose their family, their position within this structure, and that people would blame them for it. They have done it anyway because they believed they couldn't live with themselves if they didn't question this authority. I think they have been heroic in taking this step."
